Some of the things the students are learning this semester:  Kickball, Football, Team Handball, and Soccer.  The students will also learn about the five parts of fitness. We are required to do FitnessGram testing by the state of Georgia.

Physical Education

Mission Statement:

To build comprehensive health knowledge and skills in developmentally appropriate ways, to prepare and empower students to value and engage in life-long healthy lifestyles.

National Health Education Standards: Achieving Excellence Health Education

 

  • STANDARD 1 – Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention to enhance health.

  • STANDARD 2 – Students will analyze the influence of family, peers, culture, media, technology and other factors on health behaviors.

  • STANDARD 3 – Students will demonstrate the ability to access valid information and products and services to enhance health.

  • STANDARD 4 – Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks.

  • STANDARD 5 – Students will demonstrate the ability to use decision-making skills to enhance health.

  • STANDARD 6 – Students will demonstrate the ability to use goal-setting skills to enhance health.

  • STANDARD 7 – Students will demonstrate the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and avoid or reduce health risks.

  • STANDARD 8 – Students will demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family and community health.

 

Course Description:            

This comprehensive health course is designed to encourage the student to choose responsible health behaviors to improve and

 safeguard his/her health throughout life.

Class Rules

               Be prepared and on time to class, Respect yourself the classroom and others, raise your hand and wait for permission to speak.

 

Required Text:    

Glencoe Teen Health: 6th (Red Book) Books will not be issued to students unless a request is made. There will be a classroom set.

 The three parts of health, Mental/Emotional Health, Decision-Making, Health-Related Fitness and Nutrition.

Health Folder/Notebook:

Students are required to have paper, a 3-prong folder or binder with pockets and will be checked periodically as a classwork

grade.

         

Georgia Performance Standards for Physical Education

 

Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and patterns.

Standard 2: Applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics related to movement performance.

Standard 3: Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintains a health enhancing level of physical activity and fitness.

Standard 4: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others.

Standard 5: Recognizes the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.

 

Classroom Procedures and Expectations:

  • Participate daily, giving you best each day in efforts to improve YOU!

  • Be respectful to everyone and everything around you

  • No Gum Candy or drinks allowed in any areas of the gym

  • The only thing that you should have in the gym is yourself and you PE Clothes

 

 

Behavior

Disciplinary actions will take place for excessive talking, being off task, excessive tardiness, or having gum or candy in class. Students will receive a warning before any further action will take place.  After the warning is given and the behavior continues, the parent or guardian will be called.

 

Conduct: Conduct grades are based on the number of infractions that occur

S   Satisfactory = Student behavior which seldom or never needs redirection or intervention 
N   Needs Improvement = Student behavior which frequently needs redirection or intervention 
U   Unsatisfactory = Student behavior which constantly needs redirection or intervention resulting in little or no change and therefore interferes with the students learning and/or the learning of others.

 
Bullying is not accepted at our school and will not be tolerated in any class!

 

You will be graded on your EFFORT and ATTITUDE, not your athletic ability

 

Dressing Out is not mandatory; However they can:

  • Each student can dress out if they choose to do so. 

  • You must wear a T-Shirt and knee length shorts or jogging pants. Sneakers are required.

 

It is imperative that appropriate attire be worn for injury prevention and maximum range of motion in activities. Be aware that during warm weather we will go outside. Students who do not have on appropriate gym shoes will not be able to participate and will lose points for the day.

A written note with the date and Parent’s signature is required to be excused from participating in physical education.  A doctor’s note specifying the type of illness/injury and the nature and duration of the excuses are required when restricted or excused longer than 5 consecutive days.
